Versus Mobile Cranes

  • A Self Erecting Tower Crane (SETC) will operate on a very small foot print close in to the structure being erected.
  • Loads are raised vertically and moved to their final position horizontally. A mobile crane has an angled jib and so must stand off the building to allow for slewing. See the illustration below.

  • Once in position the SETC has a considerably smaller foot print than a mobile crane and is unlikely to obstruct movement around the site. A mobile will take up a good deal more room and block up a tight site.
  • A Mantis SETC is pedestrian operated and in many cases eliminates the need for a seperate banksman/slinger.
  • The SETC is available for work outside of normal working hours at no extra cost.
  • The hire cost of a Mantis SETC is usually a fraction of the cost of a mobile crane when the hire period is prolonged.
  • With the use of remote control the operator of an SETC is not confined to a cab so eliminating the need for blind lifts on projects above two floors high and in situations where the mobile crane operator does not have direct line of sight to the final position of his load.
